Big boost for Sooners as Crucial players announces Return
Oklahoma Sooners Injury Update: Key Players Poised for Return
As the Oklahoma Sooners gear up for their upcoming game against Missouri,
head coach Brent Venables has provided an encouraging update on the status of injured receivers Deion Burks and Jalil Farooq.
Both players have been sidelined for significant periods, but there is hope that they could make their return soon.
In their recent victory over Maine, which ended in a commanding 59-14 score, the Sooners were already missing several key players,
including offensive lineman Michael Tarquin and defensive end Ethan Downs. Tarquin suffered an ankle sprain in practice,
while Downs was dealing with back spasms. Despite these absences, the team’s performance remained strong.
Regarding Burks and Farooq, Venables expressed optimism in his postgame comments.
Burks has been out for the last five games due to a soft tissue injury sustained against Tennessee,
while Farooq is recovering from a foot fracture he suffered in late August. Farooq had surgery and was initially expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks;
however, he has now been out for nine weeks. Venables mentioned, “I’ve seen plenty of guys come back and be back at full speed at eight weeks,” indicating that Farooq’s recovery is on track.
For Burks, the situation appears promising as well. Venables noted that Burks has been actively running and is nearing a return to competitive play.
“Deion’s been running and working up to getting back to competition level,” he said, adding that he is hopeful this week could mark Burks’s return.
As the Sooners prepare for a challenging matchup against Missouri, having these two explosive playmakers back would be a significant boost. Venables emphasized the impact of their return on the team’s offensive dynamics, stating, “You put pressure on the other team when you have an explosive touchdown.”
Fans and players alike will be eagerly awaiting further updates from Venables during his Monday coaches show or Tuesday news conference, as the Sooners must file their injury reports ahead of Saturday’s conference clash.
