Pittsburgh Steelers’ promising defensive tackle goes down with injury

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Keeanu Benton went down with an undisclosed lower-body injury during the team’s game against the Baltimore Ravens on November 17, 2024.

Benton appeared to injure his knee after a play, prompting concern from the coaching staff and fans alike. Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Benton would need further evaluation to determine the full extent of the injury.

Benton has already dealt with a calf issue earlier in the season, but this knee injury is a new setback for the promising young player.

After the injury, Benton was seen walking through the locker room without a brace or crutches, which could indicate that the injury may not be as serious as initially feared.

However, given the short turnaround with the Steelers scheduled to play the Cleveland Browns soon, it’s possible Benton could be held out as a precaution.

The timing of Benton’s injury is particularly concerning as the Steelers are already without backup starting nose tackle Montravius Adams, who is recovering from a torn meniscus.

If Benton is unable to play, veteran Dean Lowry would likely step in to fill the gap on the defensive line.

With tough matchups ahead, the Steelers will need to monitor Benton’s condition closely. The team’s defensive depth could be tested further if Benton’s knee injury proves to be more serious than initially hoped. Stay tuned for updates on Benton’s status as the week progresses.
