
Princess Cruise Line has confirmed the heartbreaking news that a crew member was reported missing after going overboard on Wednesday while the vessel was en route to Istanbul.
The incident was identified after reviewing onboard CCTV footage, which prompted the ship’s team to immediately launch emergency protocols.
In coordination with local maritime search and rescue authorities, an extensive operation was carried out for several hours, but despite their combined efforts, the missing crew member has not been located.
The cruise line has extended its deepest condolences to the crew member’s loved ones, assuring them of continued care and assistance.
Company officials emphasized that support teams are actively helping the family, friends, and colleagues during this time of immense grief.
Princess Cruise Line highlighted its commitment to protecting the safety and wellbeing of everyone on board, both passengers and staff.
Special counseling services have also been made available for guests who may feel distressed by the incident.
Following instructions from maritime authorities, the ship was directed to an anchorage near Tekirdağ, Turkey, to continue cooperation with local officials. This unexpected situation has led to a change in the vessel’s schedule.
The planned stop at Mykonos on Friday, August 22, has been cancelled, and the ship will instead remain in Istanbul for an extended stay.
Passengers were advised to return to the ship by 11:30 PM today, with arrival into Athens on Saturday, August 23, still set to proceed as originally planned.
Excursion plans have also been adjusted in light of these developments. Guests holding tickets for select half-day tours in Istanbul can still use their original passes, with updated meeting times to be delivered directly to their cabins.
Other tours in the city have been cancelled, and refunds will be automatically processed to passenger accounts. Similarly, those who had booked experiences in Mykonos will also receive automatic credits without needing to visit Guest Services.
The cruise line assured travelers that excursion staff remain available to answer questions and assist with alternative bookings.
