Adelaide defender makes contract call

Adelaide Crows defender Luke Nankervis has committed to the club for an additional two years, extending his stay until at least the end of 2027.

The 21-year-old, originally drafted in 2021 from Bentleigh, made his senior debut in 2023 and has quickly become a key player in the team’s defense.

In 2024, Nankervis enjoyed a breakout year, playing 20 games and making a significant impact, including a standout performance in Round 13 against Richmond.

During this match, he set a career-high with 28 disposals, including 17 kicks and 11 handballs. Reflecting on his progress,

Nankervis expressed gratitude to the Crows for their continued faith in him, especially after a challenging start to his career when it seemed uncertain whether he would be drafted.

“I came in as a raw teenager and have grown into a player who can contribute regularly to the team,” he said.

Adelaide’s General Manager of List Management and Strategy, Justin Reid, praised Nankervis for his versatility, athleticism, and his ability to defend against various types of opponents.

“He thoroughly deserves this contract extension due to his hard work and the potential he has shown,” Reid commented.

Nankervis, who has embraced the team environment at the Crows, is eager to continue his development and contribute to the team’s future success.

His contract extension follows the recent long-term commitment of fellow defender Nick Murray, who signed a new deal until the end of 2028.

As the Crows prepare for the 2024-2025 AFL season, their pre-season campaign kicks off against the Brisbane Lions on February 27.
