Authorities in Bartlett have arrested a local woman following an investigation into an identity theft complaint originating from Colorado.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Angel M. Montgomery, faces serious charges,
including a Class 2 felony for identity theft and a Class 3 felony for forgery.
The case began last November when a Colorado resident reported suspicious activity to the Bartlett Police Department.
According to the victim, her bank had informed her that she was listed in collections for unpaid rent on a property in Bartlett—an apartment she had never leased.
Further investigation by a collection agency revealed that she had been listed as a co-signer on a rental agreement for a property located on the 1200 block of Timberline Drive.
As police delved into the matter, they uncovered evidence suggesting that Montgomery had assumed the Colorado resident’s identity.
Over a span of four to five years, Montgomery allegedly signed multiple documents using the victim’s name to maintain her residency at the Bartlett property.
Investigators believe this scheme allowed Montgomery to avoid financial scrutiny while fraudulently benefiting from the lease agreement.
Following her arrest on Friday, Montgomery was granted pretrial release.
She is scheduled to appear in court on May 9 in Rolling Meadows, where she will face formal proceedings related to the charges.
The case serves as a reminder of the growing prevalence of identity theft and the importance of monitoring financial records for any unauthorized activity.
Authorities encourage individuals to report any suspicious financial transactions to prevent falling victim to similar fraudulent schemes.
