Bears Strengthen Roster by Signing Former Chargers DB and Reuniting Former RB After Khalil Herbert Trade
The Chicago Bears made a series of roster moves to bolster their team, including the addition of defensive back Tarvarius Moore and running back Darrynton Evans.
With safety Jaquan Brisker still in concussion protocol and running back Khalil Herbert now traded to the Cincinnati Bengals.
the team sought reinforcements ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline.
On November 7, 2024, the Bears announced the signing of Moore to the active roster, along with the addition of DB JT Woods to the practice squad.
These moves followed the placement of defensive lineman Andrew Billings and DB Jaylon Jones on the injured reserve list.
Alongside these changes, Chicago traded Herbert for a future seventh-round draft pick, creating the need for further depth on both defense and offense.
JT Woods, a former third-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022, brings experience to the Bears’ secondary.
Although he has yet to make a significant impact in the NFL, Woods had a standout college career at Baylor.
As a senior in 2021, he led the Big 12 with six interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.
Despite struggling to establish himself with the Chargers, where he was briefly moved from safety to cornerback during the offseason, Woods’ skills and versatility were appealing enough for the Bears to bring him aboard.
After spending time with the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad earlier this year, he is now looking to contribute to Chicago’s defense.
In addition to Woods, the Bears also re-signed running back Darrynton Evans, who has had a turbulent career since being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2020.
Injuries sidelined Evans during his time with the Titans, but he found a role with the Bears in 2022 and 2023.
In his brief stints with Chicago, Evans showed flashes of potential, recording 14 carries for 64 yards and a reception for 33 yards in 2022. He spent time with multiple teams in 2023, including the Indianapolis Colts and the Miami Dolphins, before returning to the Bears for the 2024 season. After being released by the Buffalo Bills earlier this month, Evans now looks to regain his form in Chicago’s backfield.
These roster moves demonstrate the Bears’ ongoing efforts to strengthen their depth chart, especially following key player departures and injuries. While it’s uncertain how much playing time Evans will see, both he and Woods add valuable experience and depth to the team as the season continues to unfold. Fans will be watching closely to see how these reinforcements contribute in the coming weeks.
