Over the past decade, the Denver Broncos have faced significant struggles on the field, making it difficult to attract top-tier free agents despite the team’s rich history and passionate fan base.
However, things are starting to change. With rookie quarterback Bo Nix showing promise and head coach Sean Payton guiding the team toward potential playoff contention for the first time since 2015, the future looks brighter.
This newfound hope opens the door for the Broncos to make strategic moves in the upcoming offseason to build a more competitive team.
A critical step in this revitalization is improving the receiving corps to give Nix reliable targets. Current star Courtland Sutton has been solid, but young players like Devaughn Vele and Marvin Mims have yet to establish themselves as consistent threats.
As a result, the Broncos should be active in pursuing a top-tier wide receiver to complement their existing talent.
Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon highlighted Denver as one of the top “underrated landing spots” for 2025 free-agent skill players, including several big names like Stefon Diggs, Tee Higgins, Amari Cooper, and Chris Godwin.
Out of these options, Amari Cooper stands out as a potentially ideal fit for the Broncos. While players like Higgins and Godwin might be too costly for Denver, and Diggs is recovering from a knee injury, Cooper’s availability and experience make him an intriguing target.
Though Cooper is 30 years old, his recent struggles in Buffalo might not fully reflect his ability.
After being traded from the Cleveland Browns midseason, Cooper’s stats have been less impressive, with career lows in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.
However, he was brought to Buffalo with the primary goal of making a postseason impact, and his track record suggests he still has the potential to be a game-changer.
Over the past six seasons, Cooper has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards five times, including during his last two years with the Browns.
A five-time Pro Bowler, Cooper has consistently been one of the league’s most reliable wide receivers.
While his age may be a factor, experts like Evan Massey of Sports Illustrated believe Cooper still has plenty to offer if he can regain his usual form, which could elevate any offense.
The cost of acquiring Cooper will be a key consideration for the Broncos. Once one of the highest-paid receivers in the league with a five-year, $100 million contract, Cooper is now in the final year of that deal.
Spotrac estimates his market value at around $29.4 million for a two-year contract, but given his recent dip in performance, the Broncos might aim to negotiate a more affordable deal.
A potential offer could be a two-year, $26 million contract or even a one-year deal in the range of $10 million to $15 million, depending on how he performs in the playoffs.
For the Broncos, adding a proven receiver like Cooper could make all the difference as they look to build a competitive team for the future.
With a solid foundation in place and the possibility of securing another playmaker, Denver could return to being a playoff contender in the years to come.
