Brutal CFP collapse throws a wrench in Giants’ quarterback hopes

The New York Giants’ hopes of securing a top quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft took a major hit following Drew Allar’s disappointing performance in the Orange Bowl. Allar, who had been a promising prospect, struggled significantly against Notre Dame, throwing for just 135 yards with no touchdowns and a crucial interception.

This poor showing likely sealed his decision to return to Penn State for another year, leaving the Giants in a tough spot as they search for a long-term quarterback solution.

Heading into the College Football Playoff, Allar had been considered an intriguing, though unrefined, option who could declare early and disrupt the draft order.

His physical tools and potential had earned him plenty of attention, but his lack of polish and struggles in key moments exposed the need for further development.

As a result, Allar’s draft stock has taken a substantial hit, and with his return to college football now confirmed, the Giants’ path to a top-tier quarterback is unclear.

With Allar likely staying in school, the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns, who are ahead of New York in the draft order, are poised to select one of the top two quarterbacks available: Shedeur Sanders from Colorado or Cam Ward from Miami.

This creates a crowded quarterback market at the top of the draft, further diminishing the Giants’ chances of landing a game-changing quarterback. The Giants, who have been seeking to move on from Daniel Jones, now face the possibility of missing out on a franchise quarterback in this cycle.

The Giants now find themselves in a difficult situation. With the two elite quarterbacks expected to go early, the team will have to decide whether to gamble on a developmental prospect like Jalen Milroe, Jaxson Dart, or Garrett Nussmeier, or pivot to exploring veteran options.

This uncertainty highlights the precarious position the Giants are in as they attempt to rebuild their offense and secure the future of their quarterback position.

As the draft approaches, the Drew Allar situation serves as a painful reminder of how quickly plans can change. For the Giants, what was supposed to be a critical moment to find their quarterback has now become a scramble to reassess their strategy. With the clock ticking, New York’s front office must come up with a new plan to secure the future of their offense and avoid further setbacks in the 2025 season.
