Buffalo Bills place rookie DT DeWayne Carter on IR
Buffalo Bills Rookie Defensive Tackle DeWayne Carter Placed on Injured Reserve
In a significant development for the Buffalo Bills, rookie defensive tackle DeWayne Carter has been placed on the Injured Reserve list due to a wrist injury.
The announcement came on Friday, following head coach Sean McDermott’s statement that Carter would require surgery for an injury sustained during the team’s Week 7 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
This move adds to the growing list of defensive injuries the Bills are facing this season.
Carter’s surgery is expected to sideline him for multiple weeks,
and McDermott indicated that while there was a possibility of Carter landing on IR, the situation was uncertain until shortly before the official announcement.
The loss of Carter is a setback for the Bills, as he had started to establish himself as a valuable member of the team’s defense.
In the past month, he recorded nine combined tackles, including seven solo stops, showcasing his potential as a playmaker on the field.
Originally selected as the 95th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Carter stepped up into a more prominent role when fellow defensive tackle Ed Oliver was unavailable due to a hamstring issue.
However, his own injury now means that the Bills will be without him for at least four upcoming games,
including critical matchups against the Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Fortunately for Carter, his IR stint will coincide with the Bills’ bye week, allowing for a potential return during Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers.
This extra time could be crucial for his recovery and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the Bills will need to make roster decisions in the coming days to address Carter’s absence, potentially elevating a player from the practice squad or seeking new talent before the trade deadline.
As the Bills consider their options, they have a couple of practice squad players available, including Eli Ankou and Branson Deen.
While Ankou has previous experience with the team, Deen has seen limited action this season.
The team’s ability to adapt in Carter’s absence will be pivotal as they navigate the challenges of the upcoming games and strive to maintain their defensive strength.
