CBS projects Tee Higgins to sign massive contract with Washington Commanders
Tee Higgins Set for Massive Contract with Washington Commanders, CBS Sports Predicts
The Cincinnati Bengals face a difficult challenge this offseason in retaining standout wide receiver Tee Higgins, particularly with fellow star receiver Ja’Marr Chase eligible for free agency next year. Higgins, who played the 2024 season under the franchise tag, is once again set to become an unrestricted free agent. However, given the team’s financial situation, it seems unlikely that he will receive the franchise tag again for the upcoming season.
If Higgins does hit the open market, he is expected to be one of the most sought-after wide receivers. There are multiple teams likely to pursue him, but according to CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani, one team stands out: the Washington Commanders. Dajani predicts that Higgins will sign a four-year contract worth $108 million with Washington. This deal would make Higgins one of the top 10 highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL, with an average annual value of $27 million.
Washington’s potential interest in Higgins is fueled by the strong performance of rookie quarterback Jaden Daniels and the team’s success in the 2024 season, finishing with a 12-5 record. As the No. 6 seed in the NFC Playoffs, the Commanders appear to be in a “Super Bowl window,” which general manager Adam Peters is keen to capitalize on. Peters made aggressive moves during the season, including acquiring cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints, and could continue to make big moves in the offseason. Signing Higgins would be a significant step in strengthening the team’s offense.
While Bengals fans would undoubtedly be disappointed to see Higgins leave, the idea of him joining an NFC team may soften the blow. With Cincinnati facing a tough financial situation, keeping Higgins alongside Chase could prove difficult, making his potential departure a reality. As the offseason approaches, Higgins’ future remains uncertain, but the Washington Commanders could be the team that ultimately lands him.
As the Bengals navigate this challenging situation, they may need to consider other options for replacing Higgins should he sign elsewhere. However, the prospect of him joining a strong NFC team like Washington offers some hope for Bengals fans who would prefer to see him out of their conference.
