Chelsea transfer chaos as Blues order Gallagher to return to London as £34 million deal hangs in limbo.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Gallagher’s situation and how things could develop in the coming days.
“Chelsea asks Conor Gallagher to return to London on Tuesday, ready to book the flight,” Romano confirmed in X.
“The door remains open for Gallagher to join Atleti after he has finished the medication, until all parties involved.”
Romano also clarified that Gallagher’s transfer to Atlético Madrid has not “collapsed” so far, with La Liga having the documents ready to complete the signature.
However, while the transfer remains in limbo for the time being, it seems that Gallagher will fly to London unless a new development emerges.
Chelsea midfielder is now in the last year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and the club risks losing him for nothing if he doesn’t leave this summer.
Chelsea offered him a new three-year contract extension a few weeks ago, but Gallagher rejected that offer amid talks with Atlético Madrid.
While discussing Gallagher’s possible transfer to Spain of £33.7 million, Enzo Maresca told reporters: “What I know is that Conor and the club are talking about a decision… let’s hope the final decision is something good for Conor also for the club.
“No one is an initiator. They have to work day by day and convince me that they have to play.
“I am convinced that everyone is a team player. I think it is wrong to say that Conor, or Enzo [Fernandez], or Moi [Caicedo], is an initiator. He is disrespectful to other players. They are all team players.”
With the new Premier League season ready to begin this weekend, Chelsea will be interested in eliminating this situation with Gallagher as soon as possible.
The setting of Chelsea’s opening day is a tough task against Manchester City and Maresca will undoubtedly want to clear Gallagher’s situation before then.
