Chicago Bears Reportedly Made Final Decision on Struggling Coach

The Chicago Bears entered their Week 9 bye with a 4-2 record, after a strong victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

However, following two consecutive losses to the Washington Commanders and Arizona Cardinals, the Bears now sit at 4-4, raising questions about the future of head coach Matt Eberflus.

The team’s underperformance, combined with questionable decisions by Eberflus and his coaching staff, has led to growing frustration among fans and some players alike.

In particular, the loss to the Commanders, a narrow 18-15 defeat, drew sharp criticism from both the media and team captains in the locker room.

Despite the pressure for a coaching change, NFL Network’s Adam Rank reported that Bears general manager Ryan Poles plans to retain Eberflus for the 2025 season.

This decision stems from the fact that Eberflus’ contract, signed in 2022, is believed to run through 2026.

According to Rank, sources close to Poles indicated that the team is committed to Eberflus for the time being, and the coach will not face the same fate as previous quarterbacks like Justin Fields, Mitch Trubisky, or Rex Grossman, all of whom were under constant scrutiny during their tenures.

The Bears front office, it seems, is focused on building stability within the coaching staff and not making knee-jerk decisions based on short-term results.

Eberflus, who holds a 14-28 record in his first three seasons with Chicago, has faced mounting criticism, especially after the Bears’ poor showing against Arizona, where they were blown out 29-9.

Despite this, Poles’ decision to stand by Eberflus suggests that the organization is still invested in the long-term vision for the team, and they remain hopeful that his system will eventually produce results. The Bears are currently on the outside looking in at the playoffs, holding the No. 8 spot in the NFC heading into their Week 10 matchup with the struggling New England Patriots.

As the season progresses, the pressure will continue to mount on Eberflus and his staff. While the team’s performance is underwhelming, the commitment to stability at the head coach position shows that the Bears are prioritizing long-term development over quick fixes. How the Bears perform in the coming weeks, particularly with the looming challenge of making the playoffs, will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Matt Eberflus in Chicago.
