Washington Commanders Eye Potential Signing of Three-Time Pro Bowl Receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
As the Washington Commanders push toward a surprising playoff spot, the team is considering bolstering its receiving corps following the unfortunate season-ending injury to Noah Brown.
Brown, who had become a key contributor after signing with the team before Week 1, was one of the Commanders’ most reliable wide receivers, ranking third on the team with 35 catches for 453 yards.
His memorable game-winning touchdown on a Hail Mary pass against the Chicago Bears was one of his highlights.
With Brown out, the team now finds itself looking for reinforcements to help rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who has emerged as a standout this season.
Although Terry McLaurin and tight end Zach Ertz remain the team’s primary targets, the supporting cast behind them—
Olamide Zaccheaus, Dyami Brown, and Luke McCaffrey—has struggled to make a significant impact, with the trio combining for just one touchdown.
This lack of depth has prompted the Commanders to search for a veteran presence to complement their offensive weapons. In addition to signing K.J. Osborn off waivers from the New England Patriots earlier this week, the team is reportedly eyeing three-time Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who was recently released by the Miami Dolphins.
Beckham, 32, has faced challenges in recent years. He recorded just nine catches for 55 yards in nine games with the Dolphins this season, overshadowed by stars like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
While Beckham has not eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards since 2019, he remains a well-known commodity, especially after helping the Los Angeles Rams secure a Super Bowl title in 2021 as a midseason addition.
Though Beckham has lost some of his previous explosiveness, his experience and proven ability to perform in big moments could be invaluable to the Commanders.
Other teams, including the Rams and Buffalo Bills, are also rumored to be interested in Beckham, but the Commanders see the veteran wide receiver as a potential solution to their current receiving struggles.
With the transfer portal for NFL teams opening, the next few weeks will likely determine whether Beckham reunites with a familiar championship contender or chooses to help the Commanders make a push for the playoffs.
