Washington Commanders Adjust to Injury Loss by Turning to Jamison Crowder
In an unexpected turn of events for the Washington Commanders, the team’s remarkable 2024 campaign now faces a major hurdle.
While the team has relied heavily on its star receiver, Terry McLaurin, the wide receiving corps has been mostly made up of lesser-known players, with veteran Noah Brown stepping up after being added to the roster in late August.
Brown’s contributions have been immense, ranking third on the team with 35 receptions, 453 yards, and one touchdown.
However, his season was abruptly cut short on December 14, when the Commanders placed him on injured reserve due to a serious internal injury, leaving a significant gap in the lineup.
As the Commanders head into Week 15 to face the New Orleans Saints, the team will now turn to another experienced veteran, Jamison Crowder, to fill the void left by Brown.
According to reports, Crowder has been activated from injured reserve after recovering from a calf injury.
His return to the field comes after a difficult few months, as he initially went on injured reserve in October but has now been cleared to take over Brown’s role.
This move, while necessary, is pivotal for the Commanders as they push forward in their playoff race.
Crowder’s history with the team dates back to 2015, when Washington selected him in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. His college career at Duke was marked by consecutive All-ACC honors, and he quickly made an impact in the NFL, averaging over 600 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons.
Crowder later signed a lucrative three-year deal with the New York Jets in 2019 before stints with the Buffalo Bills and a return to the Commanders in 2023.
Despite a quiet 2024 campaign thus far, where he has only recorded one reception, Crowder’s return could be crucial as the Commanders battle for a playoff spot.
Noah Brown’s injury is especially concerning for Washington, as it threatens to derail their playoff hopes. Currently holding an 8-5 record, the Commanders are fighting for a postseason berth and aiming for their first winning season since 2016.
Brown’s performance had been a pleasant surprise for the team, especially after his addition in late August. After being released by the Houston Texans, he revived his career in Washington, providing a reliable second or third receiving option.
His injury leaves the team with a void that Crowder, alongside other receivers like K.J. Osborn, will need to fill.
