The Washington Commanders have received a boost as wide receiver Jamison Crowder is designated for return and will be available as soon as Week 15.
The 31-year-old veteran has been sidelined since suffering a calf injury in Week 3, but he is now on track to rejoin the team. Crowder has been given 21 days to be activated, or he will be placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Crowder’s return provides the Commanders with added depth at the wide receiver position, as well as a potential contributor on special teams.
Last season, he made an impact with 35 punt returns, averaging 7.9 yards per return. Although he has not been used for kick or punt returns this season before his injury, the veteran may step back into that role once he is cleared to play.
Crowder’s special teams expertise could be key to Washington’s efforts as they push toward the postseason.
A fourth-round pick originally drafted by Washington, Crowder spent several productive seasons with the team, before stints with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills.
Despite a modest performance in 2023, where he caught just 20 passes, his special teams contributions led to his return to Washington on a one-year deal last season.
His experience and versatility make him a valuable asset as the Commanders fight for a wild-card spot.
As Washington sits at 8-5 and in contention for a playoff spot, Crowder’s return adds depth and experience to the team’s roster. The Commanders will need all the help they can get as they close out the season, with the Rams only one game behind in the playoff race.
Crowder’s activation will give the team a healthy option to use in both offense and special teams, strengthening their chances for a playoff push.
If activated in the coming days, Crowder will rejoin a Commanders squad that is poised for a key stretch run with limited opportunities for further roster changes, as they have only four IR activations remaining for the season.
