Danger Alert!! Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding Possible Across Watauga

Residents in the High Country should remain alert today as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for parts of northwest North Carolina, including Watauga, Ashe, and Wilkes counties.

The alert, released early Wednesday morning, warns of potential flash flooding due to scattered thunderstorms expected throughout the day and evening.

The forecast highlights the chance of intense rainfall that may cause creeks, streams, and low-lying areas to quickly overflow.

Localized flash flooding could pose a risk to roads, bridges, and properties situated near bodies of water.

While not all areas will experience severe conditions, those under slow-moving or repeated storms are at a higher risk. Motorists and residents are urged to use caution, especially in flood-prone zones.

Looking beyond today, the outlook from Thursday through early next week appears more stable.

The NWS reports a low chance of any widespread hazardous weather in the coming days, though forecasts can change.

Continued monitoring of weather updates is recommended, especially for those with outdoor plans or travel arrangements later in the week.

Weather spotters and community members are encouraged to report any instances of flooding or damage to local authorities.

These reports play an important role in helping officials respond quickly and assess ongoing conditions across the region.

As always, safety comes first. Residents should stay informed via trusted weather sources, avoid driving through flooded areas, and have an emergency plan in place if conditions deteriorate rapidly.
