Georgia football wide receiver target trending away from Bulldogs

As the early signing period for college football approaches in just a month, Georgia’s coaching staff is under pressure to finalize their 2025 recruiting class.

Currently ranked third nationally, the Bulldogs are still vying for several top-tier prospects, aiming to reclaim the number one position.

One notable player on Georgia’s radar is four-star wide receiver Jaden Nickens.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Nickens is positioned as the 359th best player in the nation and the 32nd best from California.

Recently, Georgia made it into Nickens’ top five contenders, alongside California, Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M. However, it seems that the Bulldogs are beginning to lose traction in this race.

On Wednesday, recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong from On3 placed an official prediction for Nickens to commit to Kansas.

Notably, Wiltfong mentioned that Nickens may also pursue opportunities in basketball at Kansas.

This dual-sport prospect could be a decisive factor, especially considering that Georgia’s basketball program under Mike White has not shown significant interest in Nickens.

Additionally, there’s uncertainty around whether Georgia’s football coach Kirby Smart would support a player splitting time between sports.

Given these factors, it’s understandable why Nickens might lean toward Kansas if he desires to compete in both football and basketball.

Despite this setback, Georgia is still making strides with other wide receiver recruits in the 2025 class.

One player to watch is CJ Wiley, a top 100 wide receiver who recently decommitted from Florida State.

Wiley has expressed a strong interest in Georgia and continues to consider them in his recruitment process.

Therefore, while losing out on Nickens would be disappointing, it’s not a critical blow if Smart and his team can secure another talented wide receiver.

Recruitment is a dynamic process, and until a player officially commits and signs, the door remains open. However, the outlook for Nickens currently appears bleak for Georgia. Nonetheless, fans need not worry, as Smart and his staff are likely exploring other viable options to enhance their 2025 class.
