Jackson Barton Lands On IR Ahead Of Final Game
Jackson Barton Placed on IR Ahead of Final Game
Jackson Barton’s roller-coaster season has come to an unfortunate end as he lands on Injured Reserve (IR) ahead of the final game of the year.
The versatile offensive tackle has had an up-and-down journey this season, spending a majority of the time on the practice squad, specifically the PS-IR, before briefly stepping in as a starter for the team.
Barton made notable appearances, including a solid right tackle start against the Lions in Week 3 and later stepping in for Jonah Williams during key moments in Week 16 against the Panthers and Week 17 in Los Angeles.
However, Barton’s season was abruptly cut short due to a severe ankle injury sustained during practice.
Just one day before the Cardinals face off against the 49ers in their season finale, the team placed him on IR, ending his 2025 campaign.
This move comes after Barton had been promoted to the active roster following the injury to Jonah Williams, who himself was placed on IR earlier in the season.
With Barton out, the likely candidate to replace him in the starting lineup is rookie Christian Jones. Jones, who was drafted in the fifth round, made his NFL debut in Week 17 against the Rams, where he played six snaps in relief of Barton at right tackle.
To fill Barton’s spot on the roster, the Cardinals have promoted veteran safety Andre Chachere from the practice squad, adding depth to the defense.
Additionally, Luke Tenuta, one of the two practice-squad elevations for the final game, will provide backup on the offensive line.
The Cardinals have also elevated running back Tony Jones, who will serve as the third-string back behind Michael Carter and DeeJay Dallas.
The team’s top three running backs, James Conner, Trey Benson, and Emari Demercado, are all currently on IR, leaving the team with a reshuffled backfield heading into their season finale.
