Ohio State transfer picks Texas over Georgia, Florida
The Texas Longhorns have bolstered their defensive line with the addition of Hero Kanu, a former Ohio State defensive tackle.
Kanu, who was highly pursued in the transfer portal, made the decision to join Texas after weighing offers from Georgia and Florida, following visits to all three schools.
His commitment adds depth to Texas’ defensive front, which is set to improve significantly with the addition of the 6-foot-5, 305-pound lineman.
Kanu’s choice to commit to Texas came after a memorable and productive visit to Austin. During his time there, he met with head coach Steve Sarkisian and defensive line coach Kenny Baker, engaging in discussions about his future with the program.
“It was a short visit, but it was great to have a good conversation with Coach Sark about what lies ahead,” Kanu shared with Horns247.
His excitement about the team and future prospects was evident after their meeting.
Hailing from Germany, Kanu’s football journey began just a few years ago in 2021, but his rapid development has turned him into one of the most sought-after players in college football.
His rise in the sport was nothing short of impressive, quickly moving from an unknown talent to one of the top recruits in the 2022 class.
Kanu played his high school football at Santa Margarita Catholic in California, earning recognition for his skills and securing a four-star ranking in the recruiting cycle.
Kanu’s impressive credentials did not go unnoticed, as he was ranked as the No. 121 overall recruit in the 2022 class.
Throughout his recruitment, he attracted attention from some of the top football programs in the country, including Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M.
Despite receiving multiple offers, Kanu ultimately chose Ohio State, where he began his college career before deciding to transfer.
Now, Kanu is ready to make an impact at Texas, where he is expected to bring much-needed strength and skill to their defensive line.
With his unique background and impressive talent, Kanu’s decision to join the Longhorns is a major boost to the team’s defense as they look to build on their success in the coming seasons.
