Pittsburgh Steelers cut ties with pass rusher

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made the decision to waive Ade Ogundeji, the former pass rusher from the Atlanta Falcons,

after their recent match against the Las Vegas Raiders.

This move opens up a roster spot that could potentially be filled either by a new signing or by a player returning from injured reserve.

Ogundeji made his debut with the Steelers during Sunday’s game, having been elevated to the active roster for this matchup.

This elevation also allowed the Steelers to bring up Eku Leota, resulting in a total of four edge rushers available to the team,

particularly necessary due to injuries affecting key players like Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, and DeMarvin Leal.

With Highsmith anticipated to return this week, the Steelers have some flexibility in their roster management.

This situation presents the possibility for either wide receiver Ben Skowronek or linebacker Tyler Matakevich to come off injured reserve,

provided the coaching staff feels they are ready to rejoin the active roster.

During his short time on the field against the Raiders, Ogundeji recorded two tackles.

While it’s likely the Steelers may consider bringing him back onto the practice squad, any such move will necessitate an additional roster adjustment since the practice squad is currently at full capacity.

On their active roster, the Steelers now have T.J. Watt, Jeremiah Moon, Highsmith, and Herbig as their primary outside linebackers,

indicating their focus on maintaining a strong defensive presence as the season progresses.
