Pittsburgh Steelers cut ties with speedy wide receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a roster move, parting ways with wide receiver Andy Isabella.

The announcement came as the team also decided to release linebacker Craig Young, clearing two spaces on their roster.

Additionally, tight end Rodney Williams was let go from the active roster, though if he clears waivers,

the Steelers are expected to bring him back to the practice squad.

Isabella was signed by the Steelers only recently, following an injury to wide receiver Roman Wilson,

who was placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring problem. Wilson, however, is expected to return this season, and the Steelers have high hopes for him when he does rejoin the lineup.

His absence opened the door for Isabella’s brief time with the team.

Andy Isabella, who was drafted in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals, has also played for the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens over the course of his career.

Despite his potential, Isabella’s NFL tenure has been underwhelming, with only 447 receiving yards on 33 receptions to his name.

His best asset coming into the league was his remarkable speed, having clocked an impressive 4.31 seconds in the 40-yard dash during the NFL Combine.

This helped elevate his draft stock, especially after a solid senior season at the University of Massachusetts under coach Mark Whipple.

As Isabella departs, the Steelers still maintain a trio of wide receivers on their practice squad. One of these players, Brandon Johnson, finds himself in a precarious situation, as he has no more elevations left this season. This leaves the team with some decisions to make regarding its wide receiver depth as they navigate the remainder of the season.

Overall, these roster changes reflect the Steelers’ ongoing efforts to refine their lineup and keep the team competitive. The moves also highlight the challenges faced by players like Isabella, whose combination of speed and limited production has yet to translate into a significant role on an NFL team.
