Pittsburgh Steelers part ways with big-bodied WR

Steelers Part Ways with Shaquan Davis as Roster Adjustments Continue

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a significant change to their practice squad by releasing Shaquan Davis,

the former wide receiver from the Philadelphia Eagles. This decision comes as part of a broader restructuring within the team’s roster.

In a corresponding move, the Steelers elevated wide receiver Ben Skowronek to the active roster, only to place him on injured reserve shortly thereafter.

Additionally, they re-signed LSU’s Jaray Jenkins and added him to their practice squad.

Davis was initially brought on board to replicate the physical presence of the Denver Broncos’ larger wide receivers, which seemed necessary for their upcoming matchups.

However, with the Los Angeles Chargers lacking similar size in their receiving corps, the Steelers opted to retain other

practice squad receivers, including Jenkins, Quez Watkins, and Brandon Johnson.

Originally an undrafted free agent in the 2023 NFL Draft from South Carolina State, Davis spent a portion of his first NFL season with the New Orleans Saints. He was signed by the Eagles earlier this spring but

was released shortly thereafter. The Saints re-acquired him, but he ultimately did not make their final roster or practice squad, leading the Steelers to give him a chance.

During his final collegiate season, Davis showcased his skills by accumulating 934 receiving yards and scoring 11 touchdowns. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches tall, he recorded an impressive 4.51-second time in the 40-yard dash, highlighting his potential as a deep-threat receiver.

As the Steelers navigate this evolving situation, fans will be keeping a close watch on how these roster changes affect the team’s dynamics and overall performance in the weeks

to come.
