Rangers suffer season Ending loss of star player

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has called on his team to deliver a strong performance against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership this Wednesday.

This comes on the heels of a disappointing result against Kilmarnock, where they failed to secure points and left fans concerned.

However, a narrow 2-1 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox brought some relief,

although it now raises worries about the fitness of two key players ahead of the trip to Pittodrie.

In the recent match against St Mirren, Rangers made several notable changes to their starting lineup.

Captain James Tavernier and prominent players John Souttar and Cyriel Dessers were initially absent,

though Tavernier and Dessers eventually featured in the game. Souttar, however, was left out entirely, heightening concerns about his condition.

The 28-year-old center-back has been a vital asset for both his club and national team this season, and his absence could be a significant blow.

Clement addressed Souttar’s situation after the match, emphasizing that the medical and performance teams had deemed it too risky for him to play.

“He couldn’t play today,” Clement explained. “Medical staff were very clear that including him in the game posed a major injury risk,

which is why I decided against it. We’ll evaluate his status in the coming days to see if he can participate against Aberdeen.”

In addition to Souttar’s uncertainty, there are concerns regarding Welsh international Tom Lawrence.

Lawrence, who recently netted a goal in a Europa League match against FCSB, had to leave the field at halftime due to a right calf injury. Clement described the injury as a “bad knock” and confirmed Lawrence’s absence from the St Mirren match raised eyebrows among fans and analysts alike. When questioned about Lawrence’s availability for the upcoming match, Clement admitted, “I don’t know, to be honest.”

Injuries have been a persistent issue for Rangers in recent seasons, and this year has been no different. Although Turkish international Ridvan Yilmaz and Brazilian striker Danilo have returned to training, they remain unfit to contribute significantly to the first team. Furthermore, the club has not provided updates regarding the return of Colombian winger Oscar Cortes or Welsh forward Rabbi Matondo, leaving fans anxious about the squad’s depth as they head into crucial fixtures.
