Steelers Bring Back Twice-Released Edge Rusher

Steelers Reinstate Ade Ogundeji as Outside Linebacker

The Pittsburgh Steelers have once again brought back outside linebacker Ade Ogundeji, marking the third time he has rejoined the team despite being released twice.

This latest move underscores his ongoing value amid a fluctuating roster caused by injuries at the linebacker position.

Ogundeji’s journey with the Steelers has been anything but stable.

He initially signed with the practice squad on August 30, 2024, and was quickly promoted to the active roster on October 12 due to injuries affecting starters Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig.

Since then, he has been subject to a whirlwind of roster changes, reflecting the team’s need for depth at outside linebacker.

Following his initial promotion, Ogundeji faced a series of transactions: he was waived on October 14, re-signed to the practice squad two days later, promoted again on October 19, and subsequently released once more on October 29.

Despite these ups and downs, Ogundeji has managed to contribute significantly, participating in the last three games.

Notably, he logged 25 snaps against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he recorded a pass defense, and he was active in both subsequent matchups against the New York Jets and Giants.

In discussing his approach to the game, Ogundeji has emphasized his commitment to hard work and his understanding of defensive strategies.

“I’ve played in the league and have some experience,” he stated earlier this month. “I excel in the run game and have a good grasp of getting up the field in passing situations.

Being a smart player has always been my strong suit.”

With Highsmith returning from injury and Herbig expected to join the lineup after the team’s bye week,

Ogundeji’s presence on the roster remains strategic. While he may not be a primary player at this moment, his skills and experience make him an important asset for the Steelers’ depth chart. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 268 pounds, Ogundeji first entered the league as a fifth-round draft pick from Notre Dame, where he quickly made an impact with the Atlanta Falcons before his recent challenges. His resilience and adaptability could prove vital as the Steelers navigate the remainder of the season.
