Texas Adds Another QB to Room With Arch Manning

Texas Longhorns Add Walk-On Quarterback to Depth Chart with Luke Dunham

The Texas Longhorns have made another addition to their already talented quarterback room, adding Austin native Luke Dunham as a preferred walk-on.

This move comes on the heels of the Longhorns’ quarterback situation being the center of much attention last season, primarily due to the presence of highly anticipated freshman Arch Manning.

While Manning’s arrival generated significant buzz, head coach Steve Sarkisian stuck with three-year starter Quinn Ewers, even as Manning impressed in the two games he started during Ewers’ absence.

The controversy surrounding the Longhorns’ quarterback competition simmered throughout the season, despite Texas’ strong College Football Playoff run.

However, following Texas’ 28-14 loss to Ohio State in the playoff semifinals, Ewers declared for the NFL Draft, leaving Manning as the undisputed starter going into the next season.

Manning’s rise to the top of the depth chart should eliminate the quarterback controversy that had lingered in Austin.

Despite this, Texas is not resting on its laurels, as they’ve bolstered their quarterback room with the addition of Dunham, a 6-foot-3 signal caller.

The Longhorns confirmed the commitment of Dunham, a three-sport athlete, who previously held just one offer from Midwestern State.

For Dunham, joining the Longhorns was a dream come true. “I was born and raised in Austin by parents who met at UT, so it’s always been my dream to play football here,” Dunham said.

He expressed excitement about the opportunity to develop under Sarkisian, noting the program’s strong direction and championship potential.

Dunham is not only a football player but also a standout in basketball and track. In his senior year of high school football, he accounted for 3,313 total yards and 38 touchdowns, showcasing his dual-threat capability and athleticism.

Dunham’s addition provides depth to a quarterback room that already includes Manning, Trey Owens, and four-star freshman KJ Lacey.

While Manning is expected to lead the offense, having a solid group of quarterbacks will only strengthen Texas’ chances of success in the upcoming seasons.

As the Longhorns look to develop their next-generation talent, Dunham’s commitment adds another layer to an already exciting future in Austin.
