Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook has officially entered the transfer portal and is now down to two potential landing spots for his next collegiate move: the Oregon Ducks and the Texas A&M Aggies.
Cook made the announcement in November, and with the transfer portal opening on December 9, he has quickly focused on these two programs.
Cook, a four-star recruit from DeSoto, Texas, has seen limited playing time with the Texas Longhorns since the team joined the SEC.
Despite his minimal role, Cook made an impact during his freshman season, recording eight receptions for 136 yards over seven games.
During the 2024 season, he had eight receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns, but only played in four games as Texas began conference play.
Oregon could be an appealing destination for Cook as the team looks to replace key veteran wide receivers Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden, both of whom are expected to depart for the NFL after this season.
The Ducks will still boast promising wideouts like Evan Stewart, Gary Bryant Jr., and Justius Lowe, and Cook could add depth to the position as the team prepares for another potential national title run in 2025.
While Texas A&M might hold a hometown advantage for Cook, as he hails from DeSoto, the Ducks’ status as the No. 1 team in the nation and their recent success as Big Ten champions make them a strong contender for his services.
According to reports by On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos, Cook has expressed interest in both programs.
The transfer portal will remain open until December 28, giving Cook time to make his final decision. With a highly anticipated spring portal period opening in April 2025, the next few weeks will be critical in determining where Cook lands for the upcoming season.
