UConn women’s basketball lands as 2-seed in Spokane 4 Regional

UConn Women’s Basketball Earns No. 2 Seed in Spokane 4 Regional

The UConn Huskies are gearing up for another deep run in the NCAA Tournament, securing a No. 2 seed in the Spokane 4 Regional.

Their journey begins with a first-round matchup against No. 15 seed Arkansas State at Gampel Pavilion on Saturday.

If they advance, UConn will face the winner of the game between No. 7 seed Oklahoma State and No. 10 seed South Dakota State on Monday. Game times and broadcast details will be announced soon.

This year’s bracket sets up a potential Elite Eight rematch with No. 1 seed USC, a team UConn faced in the same round last season.

Other top contenders in the region include No. 3 seed Oklahoma and No. 4 seed Kentucky. Arkansas State, the Huskies’ opening opponent, earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance by winning the Sun Belt Tournament. Notably, this will be the first time UConn and Arkansas State meet on the court.

UConn is no stranger to March Madness. This marks their 37th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and they are a No. 2 seed for just the seventh time in program history.

The Huskies have built a legacy of consistency, reaching at least the Sweet Sixteen in 30 consecutive seasons and making 15 of the last 16 Final Fours.

Their path to another deep run won’t be easy, as they may have to travel across the country twice—first to Spokane and, if they make it, to the Final Four in Tampa.

Beyond UConn, the Big East Conference has just one other representative in the tournament: No. 9 seed Creighton in the Birmingham 3 Regional.

UConn faced 12 NCAA Tournament-bound teams this season, including powerhouse programs like No. 1 seeds South Carolina and USC, as well as strong competitors like Notre Dame, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

Elsewhere, former UConn players-turned-coaches are making their mark. Shea Ralph’s Vanderbilt squad earned a No. 7 seed in the Birmingham 2 Regional and will take on No. 10 seed Oregon, while Carla Berube’s Princeton team secured an 11-seed and will battle Iowa State in a play-in game.

Connecticut is also represented by No. 12 seed Fairfield, which earned its spot by winning the MAAC Tournament. With a competitive field ahead, UConn will aim to extend its historic tournament success and chase another national championship.
