Philippe Clement, the head coach of Rangers, has provided a positive update regarding the recovery of Ridvan Yilmaz and Danilo, both of whom are currently undergoing individual training as they work their way back from injuries. During his press conference on September 20, Clement confirmed that these two players, alongside Rabbi Matondo, will be unavailable for the upcoming League Cup match at Ibrox against Dundee, which is set to take place tomorrow.
This season has been challenging for the Rangers squad, with a notable number of players sidelined due to injuries. Danilo recently had to undergo a knee operation following a setback, while Yilmaz has been out of action since sustaining an injury during a match against Dynamo Kyiv on August 13. Despite these difficulties, both players appear to be making encouraging progress toward a return to the pitch.
Clement is relieved that the injury list has not expanded with any more significant players joining it. He has recently welcomed back key figures like Oscar Cortes and Nico Raskin, which has helped stabilize the squad amidst ongoing challenges. Although new signings have mitigated some of the impact from the absences of Yilmaz and Danilo, having them back in action sooner rather than later would be a significant boost for the team.
Meanwhile, the return of Hamza Igamane, who has faced delays since his summer arrival, offers a glimmer of hope. His impressive performance in a substitute role during the last match at Tannadice has left fans optimistic. On the other hand, Jefte, who joined from Fluminense, has proven to be a reliable option off the bench. However, the absence of Matondo in the wide positions continues to pose a challenge for the team.
As Rangers gear up for their first match back at Ibrox after a temporary move to Hampden Park due to ongoing renovations, there’s a mix of excitement and apprehension. With the team looking to secure a straightforward victory against Dundee, Clement is hopeful for a smooth matchday devoid of any incidents or complications. In a separate development, speculation surrounding potential outside investment in the club has been firmly dismissed by board sources, adding another layer to the current atmosphere at Ibrox.
