Montana State Bobcats get commitment from Wyoming high school kicker Michael Rubich
Montana State Football Welcomes Commitment from Wyoming Kicker Michael Rubich
The Montana State Bobcats football team has secured a promising new recruit in Michael Rubich, a kicker from Rock Springs High School in Wyoming. Rubich, a senior, announced his commitment to the Bobcats as a preferred walk-on, following a family tradition.
Both of Rubich’s parents and several of his cousins are alumni of Montana State, making the decision a personal and meaningful one.
Rubich expressed his excitement about the opportunity, sharing that he has been a lifelong fan of the team. “I’ve been a Bobcat my whole life,” he said.
Rubich’s commitment comes after a competitive recruiting process. Though he received interest from several notable programs, including Arkansas, TCU, and Wyoming, Rubich’s heart was always set on Montana State.
For him, the connection to the university was more than just about football. “Even if I didn’t end up playing football, I knew I was going to MSU,” he explained.
His connection with MSU was reinforced by his experience at their specialists camp, where he excelled in the field goal competition and impressed coaches with his kickoffs.
Rubich also had positive interactions with MSU’s head coach, Brent Vigen, and wide receivers coach/special teams coordinator, Justin Udy.
During his high school career, Rubich showcased impressive skills on the field, earning all-state honors in 2024.
His talent was recognized at Kohl’s National Scholarship Camp and the Kohl’s Western Spring Showcase, where evaluators praised his leg strength and technique.
Rubich’s longest successful field goal in 2024 was from 42 yards, and he consistently averaged around 70 yards per kickoff.
With such potential, Rubich is expected to add competition to the Bobcats’ special teams unit.
The Montana State Bobcats’ special teams are currently led by sophomore placekicker Myles Sansted, who had a standout season.
Rubich will join the team with the goal of providing competition and potentially earning a spot in the rotation.
He may also have an immediate opportunity to contribute on kickoffs, as current kicker Brendan Hall is set to finish his career after leading the FCS in kickoff touchbacks for the past two years.
Rubich is eager to prove himself, believing that his competitive edge will help him find his place on the team.
Rubich will be attending the FCS Championship game in Frisco, Texas, where the Bobcats will face North Dakota State. For Rubich, the experience of joining a team that could become national champions adds to the excitement of his commitment.
With his talent, dedication, and deep connection to Montana State, Rubich is poised to make an impact in the Bobcats’ football program.
