Big blow as chiefs suffer major setback with season Ending loss of key player
The Kansas City Chiefs will be without a key defensive contributor in their Week 10 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton, who has been a consistent performer for the Chiefs this season, missed Thursday’s practice due to a knee contusion.
This follows a missed practice on Wednesday, signaling that the injury could sideline him for Sunday’s game.
Wharton, 26, has been a valuable asset to the Chiefs’ defensive line this year, playing in all eight games so far and logging a career-high 72% of defensive snaps.
His efforts have helped the Chiefs’ pass rush, as he has tallied 2.5 sacks, 12 quarterback pressures, and a forced fumble.
His absence will be a blow to the defense, especially with the team preparing for an AFC West showdown with the Broncos.
The Chiefs are also monitoring the status of defensive end George Karlaftis, who has appeared on the injury report with an abdomen issue.
Kansas City will have to adjust its defensive rotation with both Wharton and potentially Karlaftis out, and it’s expected that players like Mike Pennel Jr. and Marlon Tuipulotu will see an increase in snaps.
Pennel, who has been a steady contributor with nine tackles and two sacks, could play a bigger role, while Tuipulotu, who has yet to appear in a regular-season game for the Chiefs, might make his debut.
This news adds to the growing list of injury concerns for the Chiefs, who are hoping to remain undefeated in the competitive AFC West.
How the team adjusts to Wharton’s absence could be a key factor in the outcome of their Week 10 game against the Broncos.
