Broncos DE Zach Allen Left Out of Pro Bowl Despite Stellar Performance
In a surprising turn of events, Denver Broncos defensive end Zach Allen was omitted from the AFC Pro Bowl roster, even though he’s had an exceptional season.
This snub has left fans and analysts puzzled, especially considering his standout performance on the field.
Allen, who had been a consistent force on defense, was not selected over players like Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns, Trey Hendrickson from the Cincinnati Bengals, and Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders, despite Crosby only playing 12 games and recording his lowest sack total in years.
NFL.com’s Kevin Patra even called Allen one of the top 10 Pro Bowl snubs, noting that he has led all interior defensive linemen with 65 quarterback pressures, and he ranks among the top defenders in the league in terms of total pressures.
Despite missing out on the Pro Bowl, three of Allen’s teammates — cornerback Patrick Surtain II, outside linebacker Nik Bonitto, and return specialist Marvin Mims Jr. — earned Pro Bowl selections.
This marks a significant season for the Broncos, who are currently in playoff contention with a 9-7 record.
A win in their final regular-season game against the Kansas City Chiefs would secure their first playoff berth since 2015.
Allen’s contract, which was signed in March 2023 for three years and $47.75 million, has already proven to be a solid investment for the Broncos.
In his first season with Denver, Allen made a noticeable impact, contributing to the defense’s strength with 60 tackles, 5.0 sacks, and 24 quarterback hits.
He was a key factor in the team’s efforts, even though the Broncos missed the playoffs that year.
Before joining the Broncos, Allen made a name for himself as a reliable and strong performer with the Arizona Cardinals.
Despite an injury setback during his rookie season, he came back strong, particularly in 2022, when he registered 47 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 20 quarterback hits in just 13 games.
His time in Arizona also allowed him to learn from future Hall of Famer J.J. Watt, who became both a mentor and a close teammate to Allen.
The Broncos’ defense is now one of the most formidable in the league, featuring a mix of seasoned veterans like Allen and rising stars such as Surtain and Bonitto.
As the Broncos push for a playoff spot, it’s clear that Allen’s steady work on the field has been instrumental to their success.
