The Los Angeles Dodgers made a decisive move following Bobby Miller’s rocky first appearance of the season.
Just one day after a tough outing against the Colorado Rockies, the team announced that Miller has been optioned to the minor leagues.
While the Dodgers ultimately secured a win in that game, Miller’s performance raised eyebrows and cast doubt over his readiness for a starting role this season.
Miller’s season debut was anything but smooth. Over just three innings, the right-hander gave up six earned runs on eight hits, including two home runs.
Though he managed to tally seven strikeouts and only walked one batter, he struggled to locate his pitches consistently.
Out of 84 pitches, only 53 were strikes—an efficiency that simply didn’t meet expectations.
His night ended early, as he didn’t return to the mound for the fourth inning.
This move highlights the depth of talent the Dodgers have at their disposal. With Bobby Miller sent down, the team is likely to continue exploring options within their Triple-A roster.
Landon Knack and Justin Wrobleski had already been called up to help fill gaps, particularly as the team awaits the return of injured starters Blake Snell and Tony Gonsolin.
The urgency to find reliable arms has only increased as the Dodgers navigate the early part of the season.
Miller’s demotion is especially notable considering the promise he once showed. Back in 2023, he impressed with an 11–4 record and a 3.76 ERA.
But things unraveled quickly during an injury-riddled 2024 campaign where his ERA ballooned to 8.52 across just 56 innings.
The right-hander still flashes elite velocity and raw talent, but he has yet to rediscover the consistency that once made him a standout prospect.
There’s still hope for Miller, of course. A stint in Triple-A could provide him with the space to work on mechanics, rebuild confidence, and get back to form.
But in a crowded Dodgers rotation filled with talent and competition, Miller will have to prove he can rise above the rest before getting another shot in the majors.
