Running Hawk rewarded with new deal until..

Hawthorn Football Club has announced that utility player Harry Morrison has secured his future

with a two-year contract extension, ensuring he remains with the club until the end of the 2026 season.

This deal solidifies Morrison’s commitment to the Hawks, marking nearly a decade since he was drafted in 2016.

The 25-year-old has been a versatile and dependable asset for Hawthorn, contributing significantly across various positions on the field.

Since his debut, he has played 103 games and has become well-regarded for his ability to switch between defensive roles and playing on the wing.

His skills in run-and-carry have been vital to the team’s strategies.

In the 2024 season, Morrison played 12 matches, including two finals, where he averaged 15.3 disposals, 4.3 marks, and 3.3 score involvements per game.

His performance during the latter part of the season was instrumental in the Hawks’ push for the finals, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure.

Mark McKenzie, Hawthorn’s List and Recruiting Manager, praised Morrison for his adaptability and consistent contributions over the years.

He highlighted the contract extension as a fitting recognition of Morrison’s impact on the team. “Harry has consistently shown reliability and versatility since joining the club eight seasons ago,” McKenzie stated.

Morrison celebrated a significant milestone this season, playing his 100th game and becoming a crucial player during the latter stages of the season, particularly in the finals. His willingness to take on any role—be it in the midfield, on the wing, or in defense—has made him an invaluable member of the squad.

The player’s journey has not been without its challenges. After being a regular starter early in his career, Morrison found himself sidelined under coach Sam Mitchell in recent seasons, spending time with Box Hill in the VFL. However, he made a strong return to the senior side in 2024, becoming a pivotal figure in the team’s final five games and excelling during their finals campaign.

The new two-year contract allows Morrison to build on his recent form and continue his development as the Hawks aim to harness their young talent for future success. His presence will be key as Hawthorn looks to strengthen its roster.

As the club navigates its future, attention will also turn to several other players, including key defenders Denver Grainger-Barras and Ethan Phillips, along with small forwards Jack O’Sullivan and Joshua Bennetts, who have yet to finalize their contracts. The coming weeks will be crucial as the Hawks look to solidify their squad for the seasons ahead.
