South Dakota State QB Mark Gronowski enters transfer portal

Mark Gronowski, the standout quarterback from South Dakota State, has made the significant decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer.

Known for his exceptional leadership and performance, Gronowski has become one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the country. With a remarkable record of 49 wins and only six losses as a starter, Gronowski’s decision to leave South Dakota State marks a major shift in his football career.

His departure follows a successful tenure with the Jackrabbits, where he led the team to back-to-back national championships in 2022 and 2023.

Gronowski’s decision to enter the transfer portal isn’t just about exploring college options. The talented quarterback is also contemplating his future in the NFL, noting that the transfer portal entry will allow him to evaluate all potential career paths.

Gronowski emphasized that his main goal is to make the best decision for his career and long-term future. “I’m confident in what I can do in the NFL,” he shared, adding that if opportunities arise that benefit his family, he would be open to changing his mind.

This decision mirrors a similar one made by Cam Ward, who explored both college and NFL options before ultimately making his choice.

In his remarkable career at South Dakota State, Gronowski amassed 10,330 passing yards, 93 touchdowns, and proved to be a dual-threat quarterback, rushing for 1,767 yards and 37 touchdowns.

He has broken several records during his tenure, and his 49 career wins tie him for the most wins by an FCS quarterback, alongside former North Dakota State quarterback Easton Stick. The record for wins in FBS remains at 50, set by Boise State’s Kellen Moore.

Gronowski’s success has made him a key figure in both the NCAA and NFL scouting circles. As the winner of the 2023 Walter Payton Award, which honors the top FCS offensive player, his combination of experience, leadership, and production places him in high demand.

NFL teams are keeping a close eye on him due to his track record of success, and he will likely be one of the most experienced quarterbacks available in the transfer portal.

Having attempted 1,190 passes with a completion rate of 63.5%, Gronowski’s ability to handle pressure and perform in high-stakes situations is unmatched.

The timing of this move comes shortly after the announcement of his head coach, Jimmy Rogers, leaving South Dakota State for Washington State.

This coaching change could have influenced Gronowski’s decision to explore other opportunities, both at the collegiate level and professionally.

As one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, Gronowski will undoubtedly be a prized target for power conference teams seeking a proven leader at quarterback.

His unique blend of experience, winning pedigree, and dual-threat ability positions him as one of the most coveted players in the transfer portal.

As the offseason unfolds, all eyes will be on Gronowski’s next steps—whether he chooses to continue his college football journey or makes the leap to the NFL.

Regardless of his choice, the talented quarterback’s future looks bright, with multiple options available to him at the highest levels of the sport.
