UConn Women’s Basketball Secures Top Recruit Sarah Strong
The University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball program has once again demonstrated its recruiting prowess by securing the commitment of Sarah Strong, the nation’s top-ranked high school prospect for the Class of 2024.
This significant addition underscores UConn’s enduring appeal to elite talent and sets the stage for continued excellence on the court.
Hailing from North Carolina, the 6-foot-2 forward had her pick of premier programs, including South Carolina, Duke, North Carolina, LSU, Oregon, and Louisville.
Her decision to join the Huskies was unveiled during the 2024 Chipotle Nationals Championship Game, mere hours after UConn’s Final Four appearance against Iowa.
Expressing her aspirations, Strong remarked on her desire to grow both as a player and an individual under the mentorship of Coach Geno Auriemma.
Strong’s basketball journey is decorated with accolades. During her tenure at Grace Christian High School, she maintained impressive averages of 23.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 3.3 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game over three seasons.
Her leadership propelled her team to an unblemished 30-0 record and consecutive state championships.
Her prowess earned her titles such as the Naismith Girls’ High School Player of the Year and a second consecutive Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year award.
Beyond high school achievements, Strong has shined on the international stage.
She secured two gold medals with Team USA in 3×3 basketball at the 2022 and 2023 FIBA U18 World Cups.
Additionally, she showcased her athletic versatility by contributing to her school’s varsity soccer team over the past two years.
Basketball excellence runs in Strong’s lineage. Her father, Danny Strong, played for NC State and pursued a professional career overseas, currently leading The Strong Center, a nonprofit dedicated to mentoring young athletes.
Her mother, Allison Feaster, was a notable WNBA player with a decade-long career and now serves as the director of player development for the Boston Celtics.
Born in Spain during her parents’ overseas careers, Sarah spent her early years abroad before settling in North Carolina.
With Strong’s commitment, UConn continues its tradition of attracting top-tier talent, following the recent signings of No. 1 recruits Paige Bueckers in 2020 and Azzi Fudd in 2021.
As she prepares to join the Huskies, Strong is poised to make an immediate impact, bolstering UConn’s frontcourt and contributing to the team’s pursuit of national championships.
